LONDON -19 September 2003 - Game Guru, the live Games Cheats show created by AlienPants Ltd (www.alienpants.com) and broadcast nightly on the Game Network (Sky Digital EPG 223) has proven to be a runaway success with viewers.
Game Guru has been broadcast every night of the week since early December 2002, and is hosted by a live presenter. Viewers can ask questions by sending in an SMS message which the Game Guru then responds to, by either speaking the answer or relaying it on screen via the SMS chat service.
Long term presenter Stuart McDonald is being joined in the Game Guru hot-seat by games industry veteran Sophie Blakemore. Sophie has appeared on various games-related TV shows in the UK, including GamePad and Gamer.tv, and is a welcome addition to the team.
“We're pleased with the success of Game Guru.” Said Tom Gordon, CEO of AlienPants Ltd. “We've proven that this sort of TV show can work in the UK, and that there is a great interest in talking about games in this sort of environment. Sophie's interest in becoming a Game Guru presenter shows that there is very broad interest in this sort of program. Everyone wants a little help with their favourite game.”
“When I first saw Game Guru on Sky it grabbed my attention - finally, here is a show that combines a really useful help service with a live-cam broadcast to create a fully interactive experience, popular with a wide demographic.” said Sophie Blakemore. “As a gamer since a young age, and a designer for game developers for the last several years, I hope I will bring passion for games and experience of game design to the Game Guru team.”
The Game Guru program was originally devised by AlienPants to provide games Hints, Tips and Cheats to viewers of the Game Network, and was the first program of it's type broadcast on UK television. Since launching in 2002 AlienPants has produced more than 250 hours of live television providing Hints, Tips and Cheats as well as release date information and general chat about PC and Console games.
Alongside the Game Guru program, AlienPants has been providing a live response Hints, Tips and Cheats SMS service, allowing users to send their cheat requests via SMS and receive a personalised response direct to their mobile phone. The GTIP service, which is running on the same SMS shortcode that people use to text in messages to the Game Guru, allows viewers to receive an individual response to cheat questions
