LONDON -16 September 2002 - AlienPants Ltd (www.alienpants.com) has launched a new SMS-based news service in association with Cellcast UK Ltd. The application, developed internally, sends a single news headline to a recipient's mobile phone when the keyword NEWS is sent to the mobile shortcode 80215, and will be promoted on the Game Network (Sky Digital channel 223). Each message costs 50p.
The system supports specific platform news as well as generic games news based on a second category code placed after the keyword. For example, sending NEWS will return a single news headline, sending NEWS PS2 will return a single PS2-specific news headline, and NEWS XBOX will return an XBox headline.
A different headline is returned each time until the customer has requested all the headlines currently available in the database. Headlines are updated on a daily basis, and automatically expire from the database after a set period of time to ensure that the headlines remain current.
“We've worked hard to integrate a traditional games news service into the limited space available in an SMS message,” says Tom Gordon, CEO of AlienPants. “Now gamers can keep up with the latest news even if they're away from their television or computer.”
“Adding the SMS News service to our interactive product portfolio already integrated into the Game Network further demonstrates the versatility of SMS as an interactive cross media tool. This service is another step to creating a fully interactive user experience that is relevant to the viewers even when they are away from their TVs,” remarked Andrew Wilson, CEO of Cellcast.
A second service, providing information about games released each week will be launched shortly.
