Quick Update!

Filed under: Friends, Health and Wellness, Work, Movies, BSG, LHR T3 — Duke @ 4:20 pm

Just a quick post to keep you updated on the latest. First thing’s first, I started a new job at London Heathrow at the beginning of June and yesterday, my line manager offered me a promotion which I accepted.

I will be posting more about the new role in the coming days but due to the sensitive nature of my work, I will not be able to divulge a great deal of information about it. This does mean I won’t be working in the games industry anymore but rest assured, I will be blogging about the topic’s I have posted about in the past, and I will be revealing a few thing’s some publisher’s and websites don’t want you to know.

In other news, I’ve seen ‘The Happening’ - think chemicals and the movie, Day of the Triffids without the man-eating plants. Also watched ‘The Incredible Hulk’ which wasn’t that incredible but I did like the ending. Oh, the mid-season finale of BSG was pretty awesome.

Apart from the above, I’m planning two trips: Toronto in September and Burbank, California in November. I haven’t had much time for anything else. Although I will be, at some stage, going to visit Myra and Gunit in their new home and hosting a gathering in London soon.

One last thing… I have completely given up smoking. About a week ago, my carbon monoxide reading was at level 31 (Heavy smoker / 20 plus per day). I had a reading this morning and it was in the green, 3. (Non-smoker).

Why I’ll buy a 3G iPhone.

Filed under: Apple, iPhone 3G — Duke @ 4:44 pm

Simon posted an interesting question and here is my response. I wanted to buy an iPhone when they were released last year but I didn’t want to downgrade from 3G to Edge.

I’ am pleased o2 and Apple have decided to sell the 3G iPhone on the ‘Pay as you Go’ tariff because this would be ideal for me because I don’t want to be stuck with anything long term until I’ve moved.

The iPod Touch is cool

Filed under: Friends, Apple, Digital Lifestyle — Duke @ 9:52 pm

On Sunday, Gunit celebrated his birthday. His girlfriend fiancee, Myra gave Gunit an iPod Touch as a present and he brought it with him to my place because he is currently staying here until he’s sorted out a new pad. Anyhoo, while he was watching the football last night, I was able to get my hands on the iPod Touch and play around with it. I watched a feature length movie, viewed a number of pictures, messed around with some apps and surfed the internet.

I like the slick design of the device and I’m very tempted to get one but I really need a camera for both pictures and video. Overall, the iPod Touch is a neat hand-held, however, I think I’m going to wait until Apple releases the 3G iPhone before I buy one because the devices will have the same and hopefully, improved functionality.

Edit: Correction.

Eurogamer Vs. Videogamer

Filed under: Videogamer, Eurogamer — Duke @ 12:56 pm

If Videogamer could complete against Eurogamer, and if I were a betting man, I’d put all my money on Eurogamer. One innovates while the other tries to copy innovation.

Whoa! FriendFeed is FAST!

Filed under: Social Media — Duke @ 1:41 pm

I set up a FriendFeed account a few months ago and I’m starting to use it a lot more. I prefer FriendFeed over SocialThing! - I think SocialThing! is pointless, slow and useless.

I like using FaceBook and Google Reader to share content. The speed in which FriendFeed picks up new content is phenomenal. FriendFeed is a lot faster than FaceBook and Google Reader.

Xbox Live Achievement Errors

We were browsing through our Xbox Live Achievements and noticed a very strange error. Take a look at the pictures below:

Is the achievement’s system busted or what?

Hobbit Gold

Gunit (aka Gareth Williams) is crashing at my pad for the next month (while he looks for an apartment near his new workplace). I’m amazed by how much he eats, the other day, he ate one of those large chocolate bars on his own.

Even though he ate all my waffles this morning, it seems like someone left in a hurry…

Feed Me

Filed under: Social Media — Duke @ 2:17 pm

I’ve had an interest in social media since Cro worked on and developed Pitch, a mobile social network. I have joined a number of networks and thought I’d put together a list of social media sites that I use on a regular basis, although some of the links below are purely used for sharing content.

Feel free to follow and friend me on any of the following networks:

Facebook - I use this service to connect with friends, family and contacts. I keep this profile updated with pictures, videos and links.

Flickr - This is obvious but most of the pictures uploaded to flickr are used on my blog, or they’re transferred to ImageKind to be printed and then framed.

FriendFeed - Is mainly used to gather content from multiple sites, you’ll find my latest tweets, shared content alongside pictures and video.

Google Reader - I read a lot of RSS feeds via google reader because I often don’t have the time to visit each site for the latest news. I share interesting content with friends and other social networks.

ImageKind.com - As with Flickr, I upload pictures to this service. You can become a fan of artists. I’m currently selling a number of pictures that I took on my last trip to Canada.

Jaiku.com - This is primely used to distribute content from google reader, twitter and flickr.

Twitter.com - I’ve used twitter for nearly a year now and it’s a great micro-blogging tool. You can get breaking news before it’s covered on TV, keep updated on the latest trends and follow interesting and influential people. If you don’t get Twitter, then I suggest you have a read over Cat’s ‘How to’ guide on how to use it.

During week days I use the above services a lot, however, I tend not to use any of the services over the weekend because I’m usually out in the real world :)
