Mantlepiece Building 101

Filed under: Canuck — Duke @ 9:19 pm

A couple of week’s ago, I pinged out a tweet on Twitter asking folks from the UK to provide a realistic valuation on a handcrafted mantlepiece. Some of the quotes were pretty good but it’s not for sale, however, I can get custom designs created for you if you wish, just drop me an email so we can get something set up.

Anyhoo, while I was hanging out with my cousin, Mikey. He suggested that we put the mantlepiece together and install it in the house. I took a number of photo’s of us putting it all together, you can view the pictures below:

Measuring the wood for fitting.

Preparing the wood to be cut.

About to use the chainsaw to cut the leg’s of the mantlepiece.

Cutting the mantlepiece leg’s… much fun.

Mike’s using the router to shape the leg’s and to remove excess wood.

Preparing the installation site.

Drilling holes into the concrete wall and attaching bracket’s to hold the wooden leg’s in place.

And were done.

The finish mantlepiece looks awesome and has totally brought the room to life.
