AeroPlan Air Miles Card

Filed under: AeroPlan — Duke @ 1:38 pm

I signed up to AeroPlan a while ago and it’s a good Air Miles program. It is a shame that West Jet are not a partner of the AeroPlan program otherwise I’d be clocking up miles like crazy…  I noticed something interesting in terms of the air mile benefit’s. If for example, I pay for five flights to anywhere in Canada the sixth flight will be free because I would have collected enough air miles to exchange them for a free fight. That is pretty cool and I’m very close to securing a free return flight.

Chris and Emma are in the middle of moving to Montreal, Canada and I know they’ll be back and forth to the UK on a regular basis. Perhaps AeroPlan could be a program they’d be able to use for the nice selection of benefit’s.

Mantlepiece Building 101

Filed under: Canuck — Duke @ 9:19 pm

A couple of week’s ago, I pinged out a tweet on Twitter asking folks from the UK to provide a realistic valuation on a handcrafted mantlepiece. Some of the quotes were pretty good but it’s not for sale, however, I can get custom designs created for you if you wish, just drop me an email so we can get something set up.

Anyhoo, while I was hanging out with my cousin, Mikey. He suggested that we put the mantlepiece together and install it in the house. I took a number of photo’s of us putting it all together, you can view the pictures below:

Measuring the wood for fitting.

Preparing the wood to be cut.

About to use the chainsaw to cut the leg’s of the mantlepiece.

Cutting the mantlepiece leg’s… much fun.

Mike’s using the router to shape the leg’s and to remove excess wood.

Preparing the installation site.

Drilling holes into the concrete wall and attaching bracket’s to hold the wooden leg’s in place.

And were done.

The finish mantlepiece looks awesome and has totally brought the room to life.

Bruin’s Vs Cougar’s

Filed under: Canuck — Duke @ 8:31 pm

On Saturday night, my cousin and I attended a WHL (Western Hockey League) Ice Hockey game at the Prospera Centre in downtown Chilliwack. We saw the Chilliwack Bruin’s (My team) verse the Prince George Cougar’s.

We had a couple of great seats which were located right behind the goalie. The atmosphere inside the stadium was one experience that I won’t forget in a hurry. The crowd was friendly and the only fighting that I witnessed was from the hockey players. The game was awesome but we lost 5/4.

F.A.O: Stu, you’ve got to go see a Canuck’s game in all it’s glory, you’ll love it ;)

The view from Teapot Hill

It took about an hour to reach the summit of Teapot Hill but it was certainly worth it. Just check out the view:

Chilliwack Mountain

Filed under: Family, Canuck — Duke @ 3:28 am

I’m currently sitting in my cousins den, watching TV on a 65 inch screen while I’m writing this blog post. The pad I’m staying at is a three acre estate and is near the top of Chilliwack Mountain. It’s really peaceful up here and I’ve got a great view of the Fraser River.

I’ve posted a few pictures below, to give you a sense of my surroundings:

The house.

The view overlooking the Fraser River.

65 inch TV.

Air hockey and the Pool table.

The bar.

Dirt Bike.

And the speed boat.

Canuck Trip

Filed under: Holidays, Canuck — Duke @ 10:58 am

It’s about to turn 2am (10am GMT) and I’m about to crash for the evening. I just wanted to whack up a post to keep you updated on my trip. As you may have guessed by now, I’m currently in Chilliwack, Canada and I’m having a great time.

It has snowed a lot over the past couple of days and we’re getting a mixture of rain with the snow - that’s not a pleasant experience if your walking around because the freezing rain can turn you numb. It is always a good idea to wear multiple items of clothing to keep warm.

Anyhoo, I’ve created a personalized google map, so you can view the various areas of British Columbia that I’m visiting in real time.

I’ll be updating the map with the day’s adventures when I get home in the evening. While I’m here, the internet is a low priority for me because I’m spending time with family that I haven’t seen in a while. However, I’ll be blogging, uploading pictures and video as and when I can.

A couple of activities I’ve got planned are as follows:

Hiking up Chilliwack Mountain, Cultus Lake and Teapot Hill.
Skiing and snowboarding.
Driving a truck around a mountain.
Will be making Snowmen and women based on some of the people I know in the UK - stay tuned for pictures, they’ll be great!

I’ve uploaded a short video that you can watch on Facebook or YouTube. Also, I’ve already uploaded a few photo’s from the vast collection of photographic data that’s consuming my Mac’s hard drive… in time, I’ll get everything online.

Alrightly, time for bed.
