New Years Resolutions

Filed under: Health and Wellness — Duke @ 11:10 pm

So, 2009 is here and we’ve had a cold start to the new year. I’m listing my New Years resolutions below, my predictions for the year will be posted towards the latter part of the week.

  • 2009 will be a smoke free year… I’ve kicked the habit and I won’t be going back :-)
  • Exercise for at least one hour per day.
  • Eat healthy.
  • Move to B.C.
  • Ignore ignorant, stupid people and stay clear from any of their babble.
  • Not spend a penny or cent on any kind of Microsoft* product.

That’s about it from me… have a great New Year folks.

(* I brought a three month Xbox Live Subscription from Zavvi for £8.99 for the sole reason of communicating and playing games with my young cousin).

Quick Update!

Filed under: Friends, Health and Wellness, Work, Movies, BSG, LHR T3 — Duke @ 4:20 pm

Just a quick post to keep you updated on the latest. First thing’s first, I started a new job at London Heathrow at the beginning of June and yesterday, my line manager offered me a promotion which I accepted.

I will be posting more about the new role in the coming days but due to the sensitive nature of my work, I will not be able to divulge a great deal of information about it. This does mean I won’t be working in the games industry anymore but rest assured, I will be blogging about the topic’s I have posted about in the past, and I will be revealing a few thing’s some publisher’s and websites don’t want you to know.

In other news, I’ve seen ‘The Happening’ - think chemicals and the movie, Day of the Triffids without the man-eating plants. Also watched ‘The Incredible Hulk’ which wasn’t that incredible but I did like the ending. Oh, the mid-season finale of BSG was pretty awesome.

Apart from the above, I’m planning two trips: Toronto in September and Burbank, California in November. I haven’t had much time for anything else. Although I will be, at some stage, going to visit Myra and Gunit in their new home and hosting a gathering in London soon.

One last thing… I have completely given up smoking. About a week ago, my carbon monoxide reading was at level 31 (Heavy smoker / 20 plus per day). I had a reading this morning and it was in the green, 3. (Non-smoker).

e-Birthday

Filed under: Friends, Health and Wellness, Family — Duke @ 9:42 pm

I went down to Newbury on Friday to attend i31. When I arrived at the event, I found out that we’d have wireless internet access which was a relief because I was waiting on a couple of important emails. When the stand was quiet I updated the WiC Facebook group with photo’s and video. While I was uploading I noticed numerous messages on my own profile so I’d just like to thank everyone again for the birthday wishes :)

I’m amazed by how electronic this birthday has become because I received mulitple Facebook wall messages, emails, text messages, pings and e-cards. Technology has made communications instanous when compared to the traditional birthday card sent via snail mail.

When I was going back home, there was a bus replacement service running from Newbury to Reading and it took frikkin’ ages to get back. I spent nearly four hours traveling on the bus, train and tube. I finally arrived home after midnight and crawled into bed absolutely knackered but I was relieved the next day was going to be a day off from work.

I was in agony from tooth ache. I went to the dentist on an emergency appointment and I had to have two teeth taken out. It is and still is very painful. I haven’t eaten anything for a few days. I’m not allowed to drink any alcohol or smoke so I was unable to celebrate my birthday on Monday evening with my family :(

Mo’ Money

Filed under: Health and Wellness, N770 — Duke @ 12:22 am

When I got back home I had some post waiting to be opened. I opened up one letter to find an official document from Her Majesty’s Courts Service. I gave the letter a brief glance over and noticed that they’ve awarded me £100 for the incident that took place in November last year.

I wasn’t expecting any compensation. This surprise will fund a new N770 :)

Dominos Pizza broke my tooth, ouch

Filed under: Health and Wellness, Xbox House Party — Duke @ 8:50 pm

During the party last night, we ordered a load of pizzas from Domino’s. When the pizza arrived I grabbed a slice and started munching away. Halfway through the pizza, I thought that I had bitten into something hard, so I went upstairs to the bathroom. After checking my reflection in the mirror, I noticed that one of my back teeth had broken. I pushed the tooth slightly and the filling with two side sections of the tooth broke away. It wasn’t painful but it feels a bit weird eating now. I was going to post a picture of the broken tooth but it looks a bit nasty.

Ugh

Filed under: Health and Wellness — Duke @ 5:13 pm

I’ve been ill for a few weeks now and it is starting to take its toll as I’m unable to do anything. Whenever I log onto the PC I get headaches and can’t focus on what needs to be done. I’ve got another appointment with the doctor on Friday so hopefully she will be able to give me some long awaited good news.

Ah yeh, as for your emails… I will reply when I can or when I’m up to speed on things.

Back!

Filed under: Gatherings, Health and Wellness — Duke @ 7:12 am

I’m not going into detail about where I was last week as it was a private ado, yet those closest to me will find out what is going on when I’ve had a chance to talk to them. I’m now back but I’m under orders to take it easy for the next few weeks so you may catch me online via messenger or Xbox Live soon.

While I was away I was expecting a couple of people to do a few things. As nothing has happened, they will soon feel the full power of my dark side…

Perfect timing…

Filed under: Gatherings, Health and Wellness — Duke @ 6:38 pm

On Monday evening I was due to have a meeting with VU Games and Pro-G Media which had previously been postponed due to time issues but we at least had a time and date for the meeting. Around 4pm on Monday I started getting ready, I walked out of my house and down to the local newsagent to buy a one day travel card.

I walked down to the bus stop and before I even got to it, some chap walked up to me and asked me “why I was following him?” I replied “I’m not following you. I’m going to the bus stop, what is your problem? Besides I have better things to do than follow you around.” The chap then started making boxing type moves and I thought he was going to hit me and/or pull out a knife so I grabbed both of his arms so he couldn’t do anything. We scuffled around for a while but no punches were thrown, although he did push my buttons and he nearly got belted.

Lucky enough as this happened in daylight and there were a number of stores open, there were plenty of people around watching what was going on. (Notice: that they were just watching what was happening and didn’t help one bit). Shortly after the scuffle had ended the chap started threatening to use a ‘shank’ to stab me. At this point a bus pulled into the bus stop and was about to depart when the chap that assaulted me started knocking on the door. The driver refused to let him on the bus and then the chap kicked the exit door in and glass went everywhere.

Within a few minutes the police arrived but the chap had run away. I gave the police my details, a description of the suspect etc and was informed that I would need to make a statement at the local police station on Thursday. As I was waiting for the police to pick me up earlier today, I noticed that the suspect had walked past my house. I quickly called the police to report what I had seen. I kept an eye on him while he was waiting for a bus, he got on the bus and the police turned up. At the time the police that turned up to pick me up only just got the report that I had made, it was coming across the police radio as I greeting them. I informed them that I had seen the suspect and he was on the bus, the officer told me to get into the police car and bingo, the siren was whaling with the lights going - that was frikkin’ awesome!

We raced about a mile down the road to catch up with the bus. The bus stopped and we boarded the bus. I immediately picked out the suspect and he was promptly arrested.

I’ve just got back from making a statement and I feel relieved that all of this has been wrapped up so quickly. I still have to give evidence in court in the next few weeks but bloody hell, was I lucky or what? I’ve posted up some pictures that I took at the scene of the incident and a few from today.

The police were extremely helpful and I can’t thank them enough. I still can’t really believe what happened today but this has got to be one of the quickest cases of justice, ever.

Two Pair

Filed under: Health and Wellness — Duke @ 10:47 pm

I got a call from Specsavers this morning informing me that my glasses was ready for collection, so I jumped on the bus and picked them up. Watching TV, playing games and using the PC was very straining on the eyes until I got my glasses.

Now I can see everything clearly :)
