Consultancy - Online Multiplayer Games

Consultancy is the traditional role you would expect of something with that name. We bring our expertise to the table, providing advice and suggestions, for example, on how a game can be marketed to customers, what game play elements and styles do and don't work, how technology changes affect customer perception of online games, or how regional variations in game uptake.

Coming from a consumer's point of view, AlienPants can provide consultancy-based services for online games currently under development, bringing real-world experience to the development process.

New Games
The development of a new game is a long and complex process, and often the concept of multiplayer gaming is added almost as an afterthought. Through the combined experience of the AlienPants principals and external specialists, we can provide a new way of looking at under-development games, providing theoretical and design assistance for new games by bringing in an unbiased viewpoint.

We also advise on how developers and publishers can best provide tools within the game to enhance the external view of the game to potential customers. This includes things like websites, tools to hook the game into external applications, different ways of presenting the same information across different platforms and so on, as well as defining and assisting in the design of in-game and server management tools.

Back Catalogue Games
Often, assessing the online capabilities of older games can provide the scope for a fresh lease of life for existing titles. With the approaching explosion in Online Games since the announcement of Xbox Live and PS2 Online, as well as Nintendo's own online plans, it may make sense to look at taking older, more established titles online on the new generation of consoles.

Multiplayer Community Management
"Community Management" covers a multitude of roles within an Online Multiplayer, from the "Games Master" concept used by many companies all the way through to the person who answers the phone when a customer calls the support telephone line. AlienPants can act as the interface between the game developers or publisher and customers, allowing developers and publishers to concentrate on developing the game.

Consultancy - Game Service Providers

Members of AlienPants were part of the original team that founded BarrysWorld, the UK's largest Online Games community, and were part of the original team who sought funding to turn the volunteer-run BarrysWorld into a commercial entity.

AlienPants was contracted in 2001 to create an entire new Online Games Community for British Telecom, under the guide of their recently purchased Games Domain brand. During the year from November 2001 to October 2002, AlienPants created a whole new Game Service Provider and Online Games Community for British Telecom, building a service based on core technologies and business concepts originally devised for BarrysWorld, and a service that grew to rival the more established services in the UK.
